Bhutan is a Himalayan Buddhist kingdom whose history was influenced by Tibet, India and China.  Its particular form of Tantric Buddhism, the Drukpa Kagyu , was introduced from Tibet in the 11th Century but became dominant when Sect members fled Tibet as the “Yellow Hat Sect” (the Dalai Lama’s Sect) took control in the 17th Century. Today Bhutan’s government is a hereditary monarchy with elements of Buddhist and British common law.  It shares much of its culture and religion with other Himalayan kingdoms including Tibet, Ladakh, and Nepal.  For more details on Bhutan, please click on the above buttons.
