Undergraduate Asian Studies at MSU

Global and Area Studies (GLAS) Major

MSU students interested in Asia can pursue the GLAS major with a concentration in Asian Studies. The GLAS major in the College of Social Science can be pursued by itself or along with another disciplinary minor or major. Students interested in the GLAS major should contact Nicolas Gisholt, nicolas.gisholt@ssc.msu.edu.

East Asian Languages and Cultures Major

The Department of Linguistics and Languages at MSU also offers the East Asian Languages and Cultures major with emphasis in either Chinese or Japanese. Students interested in majoring in East Asian Languages and Cultures should contact the Department of Linguistics and Languages.

Asian Studies Specialization

The Asian Studies Specialization provides an opportunity for students to take courses across a wide variety of disciplines with Asia as the focus of study. Students may earn the Asian Studies Specialization in addition to any MSU major. Successful completion of the specialization is recorded on the student's academic transcript at graduation.

Study Abroad Programs

The Office of Study Abroad offers a variety of study abroad programs in Asia, including the following:

• The Program in Chinese Language and Culture at Zhejiang University
• The Program at University of the Ryukyus in Okinawa, Japan
• The Program at Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea
