This one-day workshop for teachers of Japanese will provide information about best practices, methodology and pedagogy, assessment, materials, and more. Teachers of Japanese as a foreign language from K-12 schools, heritage schools and programs, and institutions of higher education are welcome to attend. The workshop is free, though participant registration is required. Breaks and lunch will also be provided
9:30 – 10:00 AM: check in
10:00 AM – 11:00 AM: Plenary Presentation by Anne Hooghart on the Michigan foreign language
proficiency requirement (Discussant: Dawn Stark)
11:00 AM – noon: Materials and idea exchange
Noon – 12:40 PM: lunch
1:00 PM – 2:30 PM: Simplified Oral Proficiency Interview (SOPI) training session with Dan Reed,
Head of Testing and Certification at the English Language Center/Center for the Support of Language Teaching,
MSU
2:30 PM – 3:00 PM: Wrap-up and workshop evaluation
