Outreach

As part of MSU's valued land-grant mission, the ASN puts high priority on outreach activities to serve the MSU, Greater Lansing, and state communities. These activities take a wide variety of forms, including: the organization and co-sponsoring of conferences both at MSU and elsewhere, including international conferences; seminars and public presentations by the ASN's core faculty and visiting scholars, diplomats, administrators, and others; cultural events such as exhibits, film festivals, musical performances, demonstrations, and others; workshops for K-12 teachers and administrators; advice and other assistance to state government or other organizations; support to foreign student and other student organizations on campus (Asians regularly constitute about 70% of all foreign students and scholars at MSU in any given year, with Chinese nationals from the PRC, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and elsewhere accounting for more than one-third of the total).

Part of the ASN's outreach mission is performed by privately endowed organizations, known as the China Council, Japan Council, India Council, and the Council on Korean Studies, which are all under the jurisdiction of the ASN. The Australia/Pacific Council is an affiliate of the ASN.
