- It is the 19th century Chosun dynasty, an era of loathing and vengeance towards Catholics. A transport ship carrying paper to the palace burns into ashes, and investigator Won-kyu is sent to the scene. Brutal murders follow suit, which are traced back to a curse by a Christian who had his whole family beheaded seven years previously. The climax builds to an unexpected ending. (Directed by Kim Dae-seung, 115 minutes, in Korean with English subtitles). Appropriate only for adult audiences, viewer discretion is advised.
Film presented by Mina Shin, Department of Linguistics and German, Slavic, Asian and African Languages and cosponsored by the Kresge Art Museum in coordination with the exhibit Celebrating Korea.

- Multicultural Center(basement of MSU Union)
- The Asian Pacific American Studies Program presents A Brown Bag talk
"Drunken Tiger in the First-Year Writing Classroom: Cross-Cultural Pedagogy and Rhetorics in Transnational Contexts"
by Jennifer Sano, Ph.D. Student in Rhetoric and Writing
Drunken Tiger, a hip-hop act that arguably pioneered South Korean hip-hop culture, entered Korea's largely homogeneous and tightly-controlled mainstream music insdustry with their 1999 debut album, Year of the Tiger.
Sano will examine the intersections of cross-cultural composition pedagogy and rhetoric in transnational contexts as she discusses strategies for creating a more inclusive writing course through a rhetorical analysis of Drunken Tiger. She will first talk briefly about some of the benefits of using popular culture for writing instruction before providing a brief biography and rhetorical analysis of Drunken Tiger, followed by an overview of the abundance of relevant topics for student development of rhetorical knowledge and literacy through the lens of hybridity.
