Thomas Jayne, Co-Director
Dr. Thomas Jayne is University Foundation Professor of Agricultural, Food, and Resource Economics at Michigan State University. He is also a visiting professor at the University of Pretoria and a Distinguished Fellow of the African Association of Agricultural Economists.
Dr. Jayne's career has been devoted to working with African colleagues to respond to the region's major agricultural policy challenges. He has mentored dozens of young African professionals and played a major role in building MSU's partnerships with African agricultural policy research institutes, serving as co-director of several grants from USAID, DFID and the Gates Foundation focusing on building sustainable research capacity in Africa.
Over the past decade, Dr. Jayne has received six distinguished research excellence awards from various professional and academic organizations, including the 2009 Outstanding Article Award in Agricultural Economics.
